about Us
"Midsummer Myself" Rural Aesthetic Education Digital Archive is a series of qualitative longitudinal studies (QLR) written by the "Crossing the Wheat Fields" aesthetic education team for rural children in Yunnan. Under an education evaluation system that prioritizes academic performance above all else, "Midsummer Myself" is dedicated to focusing on the neglected growth trajectories of rural children.
With informed consent from the respondents, the project presents the children's developmental trajectories across four dimensions: a) interests and hobbies, b) personality traits and mental health, c) social behavior, and d) external environment (focusing on school and family educational methods and societal educational policies). By compiling valuable firsthand information gathered during the "Crossing the Wheat Fields" project's interactions with rural children in Gaoligong Mountain, Yunnan, we conduct qualitative observations and quantitative data analysis at the micro-level to attempt to understand the macro-level issues of educational deficiencies in rural China. Adhering strictly to anthropological research ethics and legal regulations, the "Midsummer Myself" open-source archive aims to serve as a catalyst, providing a comparative resource for non-profit organizations and researchers focused on rural education in China.
Every summer, we will invite talented and caring young artists to stay in rural schools in China to guide children through art and cultivate their passion for knowledge and life.
We are not "philanthropists" or "educators." We hope to treat rural children as artists with independent consciousness and become their equal partners to fill the spiritual void that rural students are generally facing in the current homogeneous education model.
